Impressed with growth in outbound shipments to Jordan, Indian exporters are stepping up efforts to grow in that country with industry body FIEO planning to send a business delegation to Amman later this month.
During the first four months of the current fiscal (April-July), Indian exports to Jordan grew by 137 per cent and jumped to USD 554 million as against USD 234 Million in the corresponding period in 2013.
FIEO is sending a business delegation to Amman. The delegation will be holding business meetings with leading businessmen and also participate in the Indian Pavilion in Interbuilt, Amman between September 22-25.
During 2013-14, India exported USD 1.59 billion worth of goods to Jordan. Indian exports mainly constituted electrical machinery, cereals, frozen meat, inorganic chemicals, animal fodders, engineering goods and petroleum products. The country also imported fertilizers, phosphates, phosphoric acid, etc. from Jordan.
"Even though there is good potential for Indian construction and related products, we so far could not make any breakthrough in these sectors and visit of this business delegation is expected to make a breakthrough in such sectors," FIEO President Rafeeque Ahmed said.
"Expanding and upgrading infrastructure across the Kingdom such as mega-real estate projects, transport, municipality developments, Red Sea to Dead Sea Canal, etc provide a great opportunity in this untapped market for Indian industry," he added.
