"This is the people's mandate and we accept this with ample politeness. In Gujarat all the 26 seats have gone to them (BJP). Being the president of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee, I took the responsibility of this defeat," Modhvadia said addressing media.
Modhvadia, however, kept mum on whether he will step down as GPCC chief.
Reflecting on the Congress' debacle, Modhvadia said, "When UPA- II was formed in 2009 we had so many alliance partners, but we could not control some of them. That can be one of the reasons (for the defeat)".
Modhvadia said Congress will play the "constructive" role as "responsible" opposition.
