Three men have been arrested for allegedly preparing and selling fake birth certificates here, police said today.
Further probe was underway to identify the source in the MCD that provided the accused with actual registration numbers and blank proformas to prepare the fake certificates, they added.
The three accused, Rajeev Kumar, alias Raju, Anupan, alias Anu, and Karan, were arrested from the Tughlaqabad Extension/Sangam Vihar area in southeast Delhi on Monday, and 46 fake birth certificates and blank proformas were found in their possession, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajiv Ranjan said.
Police busted the racket after receiving a tip-off, he said, adding that the accused used to charge Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 for the fake certificates.
The accused were arrested during a raid on a Tughlaqabad Extension shop, from where they used to operate, after they handed over a fake birth certificate to a decoy customer sent by the police, Ranjan said.
All three are residents of Delhi and have been preparing documents like birth certificates, Aadhaar card, ration card, etc., on commission basis, the ACP added.
