Over the last one year fake currency in the denomination of Rs 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 totalling Rs 1,04,73,600 was found in the currency chest (where banknotes and rupee coins are stocked) of HDFC bank located at Golf Course, a police spokesperson said.
These fake currency notes had been received during the transactions at more than 100 branches and ATMs of the bank during the past one year, he said.
On the bank's complaint, an FIR has been registered in the matter, he said, adding that an investigation has been initiated.
These fake currency notes would be sent to forensic labs at Nashik for testing, he said.
The same currency chest in 2013 had handed over more than Rs one crore fake notes to Gurgaon police, the spokesperson added.
