Five persons were arrested yesterday by the Kalwan rural police for allegedly circulating fake currency notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 at the Saptashrungi temple at Nandui in the district, Kalwan police Sub-Divisional Officer Sachin Gunjan said today.
Fake notes amounting to Rs 2.75 lakh and two vehicles were also seized from their possession, he said.
The incident came to light when some shop owners and the manager of the temple trust doubted that the note used by one of the member for purchasing some items was fake. After this, the note was tested in the counting machine which revealed that it was fake, he said.
Police said a case under relevant sections of IPC has been registered in the regard and the accused will be later produced in a local court.
