Farmers in Thanjavur stage rail roko pressing for demands

Nearly 50 farmers under the banner of Cauvery Rights Retrival committee (CRRC) were arrested today for staging rail roko at Mariamman temple railway level crossing near here, demanding constitution of Cauvery Management Board (CMB), police said.
The protesters shouted slogans and stopped the Karaikal-Ernakulam Express for an hour.
The protest by the farmers pressing for their charter of demands, including withdrawal of a central bill on inter-state river water disputes, entered the 3rd day today.
Later, they were detained, they said.
