Farmers protest in front of Krishna district collectorate

Farmers from Chinnapuram village panchayat staged a protest in front of the Krishna district collectorate here today, demanding withdrawal of the land acquisition notification to acquire their lands for the Machilipatnam deep water port and ancillary industries.
The protest was led by Congress, Communist Party of India the Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders.
They raised slogans against the Andhra Pradesh state government, AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and the local MP.
A large number of farmers from Chinnapuram village, whose lands are to be acquired, blocked the gate of the district collectorate and demanded withdrawal of the AP state government's land acquisition notification, saying that they would not give up their lands.

Protestors said that they are not against port development for which land has already been acquired, but are opposed to acquisition of more land in the name of setting up ancillary industries.
They said that government land survey teams would not be allowed to visit their villages.
