Several farmers and labourers from different organisations will hold a three-day demonstration at Badal village, the ancestral house of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, against the alleged anti-farmer policies of the Punjab government.
The protesters will also gherao the private residence of the chief minister in the village at Lambi constituency of Muktsar district from January 6, BKU (Ugrahan) General Secretary Joginder Singh said today.
Joginder claimed that the Badal government's anti-farmer policies resulted in suicides of farmers and farm labourers and warned that if their demands are not met after three days an indefinite dharna would be held at the village.
The farmers are demanding Rs 40,000 per acre compensation for the loss of cotton crop in the attack by Whitefly pest, Rs 20,000 per acre to farm labourers and clearance of dues of sugarcane growers.
