Commending Premier Manmohan Singh's statement that he is ready to work under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Union minister Farooq Abdullah today said he hoped the Congress vice-president would take over the responsibility of the Prime Ministership as early as possible.
"I hope Rahul will take over the responsibility (of Prime Ministership) as quickly as possible and guide this country forward," he told reporters here.
Asked whether Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is the right choice for the PM's post, the New and Renewable Energy minister said "I have nothing to say who is going to be the next PM."
But Manmohan Singh's statement that he is ready to work under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi is commendable, he said.
Expressing concern over violence in Muzaffarnagar, the NC patron said "all of us must be careful as elections are approaching. Some parties will try to create communal tension and we should fight these strongly."
"I appeal to everyone to maintain communal harmony," Abdullah said.
Referring to the opposition to Zubin Mehta's concert, he said "Zubin did a great job. We are grateful to Zubin and the German Ambassador for the show in Shalimar Garden."
"It is a great opportunity for all of us to show to the world how Kashmir is like and how Kashmir enjoys the music. This will only encourage tourism," he said.
