Father of youth detained in rape case commits suicide

Father of a youth detained in connection with a rape case, has allegedly committed suicide, police said today.
A 13-year-old dalit girl was allegedly raped by a youth Monu in Sikohabad area, a police spokesman in Lucknow said.
He said that on the complaint of the girl's father, a case was lodged and Monu was arrested.
The spokesman said that during the investigation conducted by the Circle Officer, name of one Bharat Singh surfaced, who was detained yesterday.
Bharat's father Hukkum Singh allegedly consumed some poisonous substance last night and he died in Agra during his treatment, he said.
Agitated with the incident, employees of Narain Degree College where Hukkum was employed as an electrician, and local residents staged a demonstration alleging harassment by police, the spokesman said.

In Firozabad, ASP Rakesh Pandey said that SI Ajay Kumar has been sent to police line and an inquiry has been ordered against two policemen.
