With heavy rains triggered by cyclone Phailin damaging crops in Bihar on a large-scale, the state government today decided to conduct a fieldwise survey in the cases where the loss is more than 50 per cent so that the affected farmers can be given agricultural inputs.
The decision was taken at a meeting conducted by Agricultural Production Commissioner Ashok Kumar Chauhan with Secretary Agriculture Vivek Singh, Director Agriculture M Sarwan, his counterpart in Horticulture Ajay Kumar and district Agriculture officers.
Chauhan said that as per the Central government norms, where the damage is more than 50 per cent, a field wise survey will be conducted to provide agricultural inputs to the farmers, an official release said.
District Agriculture officers informed that there has been large scale damage to crops like paddy, banana, sugarcane, potato and vegetables across Bihar due to continuous rains for 72 hours till October 16 triggered by cyclone Phailin.
It has been directed that the survey should be completed by October 24 and the report should be made available to the state office for further action.
The officials were told to inspect if seeds have also received any damage due to the natural calamity, the release added.
