Principal Judge of Special Court for NDPS Act, V Ramamurthy also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on Fernandez Darel Riano, arrested in May 2008 at Chennai airport.
According to the Prosecution, Riano had attempted to smuggle two kg of heroin to Kuala Lampur.
Riano later confessed that she was trying to carry the banned substance for another woman for monetary benefits.
The evidence produced by the prosecution was sufficient to conclude that she had agreed to be a carrier of the banned substance, the judges said.
