The FIR was lodged against the Minister of State for Railways and 27 others for the murder of Badal Sheikh at Char Paraspur village under Jalangi police station.
Badal's companion Imtiaz Seikh was injured and admitted to hospital.
Local Trinamool leaders blamed Congress-sheltered miscreants for the attack but Congress denied the charge.
District Congress leader Ashok Das said it was a political conspiracy to harass the minister.
Chowdhury was campaigning for the Lok Sabha election and was away from the district.
