The fire gutted the record room on the seventh floor of the secretariat building at sector 9 in the city, they said, adding that no casualty was reported so far.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal asked the Secretary, General Administration Dr Roshan Sunkaria to thoroughly probe into the circumstances which led to the incident.
Badal also directed the official to submit the inquiry report regarding the mishap within a week.
