office of the Block Development Officer at Golamunda in Kalahandi district left computers and an air-conditioner burnt, the police said today.
Though it was initially suspected to be the handiwork of the Maoists, Kalahandi SP Sarthak Sarangi said the fire which broke out last night was caused by short circuit.
Sarangi said the power department personnel confirmed that it was a case of short circuit.
However, a poster purportedly written by the Maoists was found at the spot. The poster threatened that the BDO of Golamunda would be abducted.
Dharmagarh sub-divisional police officer Dinabandhu Sethi said it appeared that some people who were against the BDO for some reason had left the poster there after noticing the fire.
