To facilitate passengers visiting the ongoing India International Trade Fair, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will be inducting its first six-coach train on Dilshad Garden to Rithala (Line 1) tomorrow.
It will be the first of a total of 10 six-coach trains to be introduced on Line-1 in a phased manner.
"The induction of this six-coach train has been preponed for Sunday for facilitating passengers visiting the ongoing India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan," said Anuj Dayal, Executive Director (Corporate Communications) DMRC.
These trains will carry approximately 600 commuters more than the four-coach trains and boost the carrying capacity of the Line 1 from the present average rideship of around 3.5 lakh.
Earlier, DMRC introduced six coach trains on Jahangirpuri to HUDA City Centre (Line 2) and Dwarka Sec-21 to NOIDA City Centre/Vaishali (Line-3/4).
DMRC has planned to convert 10 of its trains on Line-1 into six coach trains out of a total of 29. Thus, Line-1 will have 19 trains of four coach each and ten trains of six coach in next few months.
Once all such trains are inducted into service on this line, then every alternate train on Line-1 will be of six coach during the peak hours.
The Delhi Metro introduced the first six-coach Metro train into passenger services in December 2010 on Line 3,4 and subsequently introduced the six coach trains on Line-2 from February 2011.
Similarly, the first eight coach Metro train was inducted into passenger services in December 2012 on Line 2 and in August 2013 on Line-3,4.
Presently, Delhi Metro has recorded footfall of around 25 lakh passengers on any working day on all its lines with more than 2,700 train trips made each day traversing over 69,000 kms per day.
