Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today flagged off the first batch of pilgrims for the revered Hemkund Sahib Yatra from Govind Ghat.
The gates of Hemkund Sahib, where Guru Gobind Singh meditated before his incarnation as the 10th Sikh guru, would be opened for devotees tomorrow.
Rawat noted that all necessary preparations have been done and pilgrims would face no hurdles during the Yatra.
However, he noted that glaciers could be found from Ghagharia onwards in the way which can pose problems for the administration.
Every year, the doors of Hemkunt Sahib open for pilgrims from June 1 to October 5.
The Chief Minister said seven to eight lakh people would visit the shrine before the rainy season this year.
He informed that as of now three to four lakh people have registered for the Yatra.
After flagging off the yatra, the Chief Minister inaugurated a link bridge and a multi-storey parking in Govind Ghat.
