Terming Buddha's teachings as the best, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said these promote humanity, peace, compassion and love for each other.
Addressing the First Founding Members Conclave of International Buddhist Confederation here, she said, "Buddha's Four Truths and Middle Path have been guiding lights in the conduct of our own lives.
"If we really and truly want peace, compassion and love for each other, and respect for each other in this very diverse world there can be no better teaching than the teachings of Lord Buddha," she said.
The First Founding Members Conclave was organised by International Buddhist Confederation to contribute to the preservation and promotion of Buddhist Heritage in the world.
"India has been fortunate that he was born here and today we find that his message spread to millions of people brings them solace and comfort all over the world...It is something we salute and we respect," Dikshit said.
United Nations General Secretary Ban Ki-moon and Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, President Pontifical Cardinal for inter-religious dialogue, Vatican City also extended their wishes through a letter of support.
The Dalai Lama also addressed the participants through an audio-visual message that combined modern technology and ancient philosophy for a healthy human society.
Princess of Bhutan Ashi Kesang Wangmo Wangchuk, the 17th Karmapa, Sanhga Raja of Laos, Mahanayakas of Sri Lanka besides dignitaries and over 250 monks from across 39 countries are participating in the conclave.
