The film, based on Andy Weir's novel of the same name, will be Scott's fourth sci-fi movie after "Alien" (1979), "Blade Runner" (1982) and "Prometheus" (2012), reported Entertainment Weekly.
The three-minute promo clip features Damon's character, NASA astronaut Mark Watney, giving a "personal" guided tour to the doomed Mars bound spaceship, the Hermes.
"The Martian", which also stars Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Michael Pena and Aleksel Hennie, narrates the survival story of Watney, who has left for dead on Mars after the crew gets caught up in a storm.
