Additional Superintendent of Police (CID) H L Thangzuala said the five abducted person have been released by their abductors in Bangladesh at around 3 pm and were safe.
"We expect that they would be arriving at the Mizoram-Bangaldesh border by midnight where we would receive them with medical experts" the ASP CID said.
Five construction workers working inside the Mizoram-Bangladesh-Tripura border Dampa Tiger Reserve were abducted on February 19 by armed people from an anti-poaching camp and taken to Bangladesh where they were kept till date.
Meanwhile, Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, while winding up the discussion on the demands under his charge in the state assembly announced the release of the five captives saying that no ransom was paid to secure their release.
The chief minister warned that the state police would take stringent action including storming the hideouts of the ultras if such incident of abduction happened again.
