Police raided a state-run Nabarangpur-Vijayawada bus around late on Saturday night and made the arrests.
"We had information about ganja being transported in the bus. Those arrested belong to Padwa in the district," said IIC of Koraput Town police station Subash Chandra Raiguru.
During interrogation, the five confessed that they were smuggling the ganja to Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh, the officer added.
In last two months, police have arrested 24 smugglers and seized ganja worth several lakhs of rupees. Those engaged in the illegal trade are using Lamataput, Padwa and Pottangi routes in the district to smuggle contraband from Malkangiri to other areas, police said.
