Patrapur Forest Range Officer, Patrapur, R K Rout said the herd of wild boars, consisting of around 20 animals went on a rampage at Gunduri village, where several people were engaged in the fields.
"When the men tried to chase the wild boars away the animals turned violent and attacked them," he said.
Five men were injured in the attack, he said.
The animals also destroyed several acres of standing crops in the area, the villagers claimed.
The injured were first admitted at Patrapur hospital and then shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
