The victims had taken shelter from the rain in the hall near a cremation ground near Cumbum, when the centuries-old tree crashed on a hall, they said, adding the victims included a father and his son, a small boy.
According to PWD sources, the tree on the banks of a PTR channel at Narayanthevan patti village was centuries-old and it got uprooted in the strong winds.
The injured have been admitted to hospital.
