He couldn't resist following the IPL players' auction even in the middle of the World Cup but New Zealand pacer Trent Boult asserts that his focus is firmly on the ODI showpiece despite emerging as the fifth costliest player.
Boult was bought for Rs 3.8 crore (over USD 800,000) by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the players' auction held yesterday in Bengaluru.
"It was a pretty unique experience, something I felt I had no control over. I put my name into the auction a couple of months ago and then you just let it happen," Boult told reporters.
"The guys were pretty elated for me and it was pretty special to share it with a couple of mates because it really is a once in a lifetime thing but the focus is still on the Cricket World Cup," he asserted.
Boult stood out with figures of 2/21 in six overs in New Zealand's three-wicket win over Scotland today and speaking about the match, the pacer said he never expected the proceedings to become so tense.
"It got a little bit scarier than we would have wanted it to. When I'm rushing around the changing room trying to chuck the pads on it means we might be in a little bit of trouble. But we got there in the end and got the points and got the job done," Boult said.
"It's just nice to be out there (today) assisting and contributing to a bowling performance and to the win," he said. "We stuck together pretty well as a bowling unit and it's nice that everyone put their hand up and helped in some way," he added.
