The flood situation in Assam showed signs of improvement today although over 1.45 lakh people are still affected in over 300 villages across the state.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in its flood report that over 1.45 lakh people are affected as of now in 317 villages across Dhemaji, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, Barpeta, Goalpara, Morigaon, Dhubri, Golaghat, Udalguri and Cachar districts.
Till yesterday, nearly 2.6 lakh people were hit by flood in over 500 villages across 11 districts.
The worst hit is Goalpara district with over 63,000 persons affected due to the flood, followed by Morigaon with more than 33,000 people hit at present, ASDMA said.
More than 15,000 hectares of crops are under water currently, the report mentioned.
Authorities are operating 34 relief camps in Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Morigaon, Barpeta and Goalpara, where nearly 12,000 persons are taking shelter.
At present, Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Neamatighat in Jorhat district and Dhubri town, ASDMA said.
Besides, Jia Bharali at NT Road crossing in Sonitpur, Barak at AP Ghat in Cachar, Katakhal at Matizuri in Hailakandi and Kushiyara at Karimganj town are also flowing above the danger mark, it added.
The flood waters have damaged at least nine roads in Barpeta, Goalpara and Dhubri during the last 24 hours, while one bridge was damaged in Goalpara.
The current deluge has claimed 15 lives so far across many districts, taking the toll in this year's two phases of flood to 20 in Assam.
