"From December 24, Food Security Act will be implemented in Assam. From this scheme around 2.4 crore people will be benefited by receiving subsidised rice," Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters here.
He said 60 per cent population from the towns and 84 per cent of the people living in villages will be benefited under the Act.
"We wanted to do it from July last year. But the new government at the Centre introduced a mandatory clause of making all data computerised. So it delayed the entire process.
According to the Act, every eligible person will get 5 kg of rice every month at Rs 3 per kg.
