No one was killed or injured in the blaze, which started due to a short-circuit, they said.
According to police, a worker entered the godown around 1:30 AM and switched on light which caused a short-circuit leading to the fire.
The godown is situated on the second floor of a building.
In about 10 minutes, the fire spread to the entire second floor, the police said.
"The material of the boxes which contained shoes and slippers helped the fire to spread quickly," said a police official.
The firefighting operation took several hours and the last fire tender returned only about 10 AM, police said.
The exact damage is yet to be estimated, they added.
