This is for the first time that wards will be reserved for SC candidates in Goa in panchayat polls.
"For the first time in the history of panchayat elections in the state, it has been decided to reserve certain wards exclusively for SC candidates," Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho told reporters today.
Election will be held for 186 panchayat bodies on June 11, he said, adding a total of nine wards would be reserved for SC candidates.
This reservation would be in addition to the existing 12 per cent reservation for Scheduled Tribes, 27 per cent for Other Backward Classes and 33 per cent for women.
