A former police constable today abducted a Police Transport Organisation (PTO) official along with two others, demanding reforms in the PTO from alleged corrupt practices.
Meanwhile, the PTO official was released amidst high drama. However, the identities of the remaining two, whom he claims to have abducted, were still to be ascertained.
Former police constable Giriprasad Sarma, allegedly called up local TV news channels and claimed that he has abducted one Ramana Rao and two others.
He also said he had uploaded a video onto a website showing one person (whom he claimed was Rao) in an "unconscious" state and put forth several demands, including one for the creation of a separate Rayalaseema state from Andhra Pradesh.
The caller, who identified himself as "Sarma", also demanded that AP DGP V Dinesh Reddy take action against alleged corruption in the PTO.
Rao was late night released near DGP office where he was brought in an autorickshaw, a senior police official told PTI, adding they have launched a manhunt to nab Sarma.
"It appears that Sarma abducted only Rao... Special teams have been formed to nab Sarma," the senior official said.
Sarma, who was suspended for holding Superintendent of Police, E Lakshmi Narayana, hostage in September last year, was subsequently sacked.
He is also accused of setting on fire the vehicle of PTO Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar in April this year.
