Police Wednesday arrested former BJD Corporator of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Ranjita Biswal on charge of possessing illegal arms and ammunition and lending them to antisocial elements in the city, an officer said.
Ranjita was earlier arrested by the city police in March 2018 for her alleged links with gangster siblings Sushant and Sushil Dhalasamanta. She was, however, granted conditional bail by Orissa High Court in July last year.
Police claimed that during a poll-related checking, one Alok Prusty of Chauliganj police station was apprehended with a country-made pistol and some ammunition. He confessed before the police that he had procured the same from Ranjita Biswal, police said.
Based on the information, a police team raided Ranjitas house at Deulasahi and retrieved two pistols and five rounds of live bullets from her possession, police said.
She was then arrested, police said.
