Former bureaucrats, including an ex-chief secretary of Delhi, and a retired Delhi Police commissioner have condemned the alleged attack on Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash by two MLAs of the ruling AAP, calling it "abhorring" and "deeply worrying".
The alleged attack took place on Monday night at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence in Civil Lines area during a meeting.
In an open letter, the former officials said that it was "more shocking that elected legislators associated with the ruling party perpetrated the attack".
The letter was signed by former Delhi chief secretary D M Spolia, former Delhi Police Commissioner B K Gupta, former DDA vice-chairman Balvinder Kumar, and others.
"We, the undersigned, strongly condemn the abhorrent attack on the chief secretary of Delhi at the residence of the the chief minister," they said, adding that "such an attack is deeply worrying".
"We demand that the chief minister immediately speak up and apologise on the issue," they said in the letter.
In the spirit of justice, it is demanded that the perpetrators of the attack be "punished at the earliest," they added.
