Former cop pulled up by court

A retired police sub-inspector who attempted to get a job for his son by allegedly paying a bribe of Rs seven lakh was pulled up by the Madras High Court bench here for filing a cheating complaint over the matter despite himself being in the wrong.
Hearing a petition by R Nagarajan, a retired TNEB Ltd employee against whom the SI had filed the complaint, Justice N Kirubakaran stayed the FIR suo moto and directed the police to file a reply as to how they registered the FIR.
"The complainant used an illegal method to get job for his son, which was first of all was wrong and thereafter, he went to police who registered the case based on his complaint, which was also wrong," the Judge said.

Ramasamy had tried to get a job for his son in TNEB Ltd by allegedly giving an illegal gratification of Rs seven lakh to a person believed to be an aide of a state minister at the alleged instigation of Nagarajan.
As his attempt proved futile, he lodged a complaint with the police here who in turn registered an FIR against the retired EB employee and his son.
Aggrieved over this, 63-year old Nagarajan filed the present petition seeking a direction to the police to register his complaint against the retired SI accusing him of issuing life threat.

The petitioner submitted that Ramasamy gave Rs seven lakh to one Gnanaselvam, believed to be a relative of a minister, who assured to get the job. However, Gnanaselvam died later.

Unable to get the job for his son, Ramasamy turned against him, he contended.
When he lodged a complaint against Ramasamy, police refused to register the same, he charged.
