The sources said 95-year-old Gurusamy was admitted to the hospital a few days ago for old age related ailments.
A champion of farm labourers' and industrial workers' rights, Gurusamy was member of the territorial assembly between 1969 and 1973.
He had earlier been the member of the erstwhile Representative Assembly.
A veteran freedom fighter, Gurusamy was also an awardee of the Centre's Tamara Patra.
He was member of the Tamil Nadu CPI committee's executive committee, party sources said.
He is survived by wife and five sons.
