Accompanied by a large number of Trinamool Congress supporters, Ahmed went to the office of the Barpeta district DC, who is also the returning officer, to file his papers.
After filing of the nomination, Ahmed addressed his supporters and said he would work for the people to keep his father's name high.
Talking about Congress party, which allegedly denied ticket to him, Ahmed said, "There is a vast difference between the Congress of my father's time and the present time. The Congress of today has no morality."
The papers will be scrutinised on April 7, while the last date of withdrawal of candidature is April 9.
The polling in these seats will take place on April 24.
