Former Raj MLA arrested for 'slapping' RIICO official

A former Congress MLA in Rajasthan was today arrested for allegedly slapping a state Industrial Development and Investment Corporation officer, triggering protests by the leader's supporters in Balotra of Barmer district.
Madan Prajapat, an ex-MLA from Pachpadra constituency, allegedly slapped regional manager of Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) Praveen Gupta during an encroachment removal drive in the RIICO Industrial area, on Tuesday.
"An FIR against the former MLA was lodged by the RIICO officer. Today, the accused was arrested in presence of his supporters in the town following which they started pelting stones and damaged vehicles," Additional SP Barmer Jassa Ram said.

According to the SP, the mob burnt a motorcycle and damaged other vehicles also. But the mob was dispersed and the situation was brought under control.

A few policemen and some persons have sustained minor injuries during the tiff.
"We have detained a few persons and police force have been deployed in the town in order to ensure peace in the area," he said.
