"Body of the former MLA Anaar Singh Diwakar was recovered from room number 402 of Shikhar hotel this morning," Additional Superintendent of Police Visarjan Singh said.
Though the exact cause of his death was not clear, the family members of Diwakar alleged that it was a murder.
Senior police officers, including SSP Surendra Kumar Verma, have reached the spot.
Diwakar was elected from Jalesar constituency to Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha on SP ticket in 2002.
In 2012 Assembly elections, he contested again on Congress ticket.
He was recently re-inducted into SP by party national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav.
