Four persons, including two women were killed in rain-related incidents in the steel city which is being pounded by incessant rains for the past two days.
A 12-year-old boy was swept away in the strong current of Kharkhai river when he went to bathe along with three friends, officer-in-charge of Jugsalai police station, Inspector Ashok Kumar Giri said.
Divers have been deployed to search for the boy, he said.
In another incident, two members of a family - a 12-year-old boy and his aunt were killed when a wall collapsed on them at Sitaramdera this morning owing to heavy overnight rain.
Another woman died when she came in contact with a live wire at her rented home at Dimna road, senior Superintendent of Police, Anoop T Mathew said.
The woman is an employee of a call centre and hails from Assam.
Several families were affected as heavy rains inundated Bagbera, Shastrinagar, Jugsalai, Mango and other areas of the city.
Sub-divisional officer, Dalbhum, Alok Kumar said normal life was affected due to water-logging in those areas and 30 houses in the catchment areas of Bagbera Naya Basti were under water.
Water level of both Kharkhai and Swarnarekha rivers are flowing above the danger mark and the East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Amitabh Kaushal has sounded an alert as their levels are likely to rise as two sluice gates in Odisha would open to release water in a couple of hours.
He also directed the district officials to ensure safe evacuation of people living in catchment areas.
People living in low-lying areas have been asked to shift to safer places in view of the increasing water level, district officials said.
A report from the uranium town of Jadugora said three persons who went to catch fish were trapped in the swollen Swarnarekha river and were rescued by the police and the locals.
