Four suspected highway robbers, allegedly involved in an inter-state racket that stole trucks, were arrested, police said today.
With the arrest of Suraj Kamal (23), Anish (36), Ajay Kumar (42), and Imran (26), the police claimed to have worked out six cases of highway robberies and motor vehicle thefts.
On May 19, police were informed about the theft of a truck from the KFM Godown, near Surya Dharam Kanta, Alipur, in outer Delhi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Deo said.
Police said the kingpin of the gang, Kamal, was arrested from the Raja Harish Chandra hospital, in Narela, on June 17 and a white Santro car which was used in the crime, was seized from him.
During interrogation, Kamal revealed the names of his associates which led to their arrests, officials said.
The senior officer said the gang operated from Baghpat, in Uttar Pradesh, and was active in robbery and theft of trucks from highways.
Subsequently, four Tata Hywa Trucks were recovered, he added.
Police said the gang used to sell or rent out the stolen trucks in remote areas of western UP.
