The mishap occurred in Dholirbari area of the district when the driver lost control over the vehicle, police said.
Four persons, including a relative of the person after cremating whom they were returning, died on the spot while 11 others sustained injuries.
The injured, including some reported to be in serious condition, are being treated at hospitals in Kolkata and Canning, they said.
