Four alleged members of the notorious Naveen Khati gang have been arrested for the revenge killing of an elderly person two days before Holi.
The deceased in this case was the father and uncle of two men wanted in the gruesome murder of four youth on New Year's eve who were first shot dead and their bodies taken to Haryana where they were set on fire.
The accused, identified as Sagar, Sunil alias Sabha, Vipin Sehrawat and Rohit alias Abhimanyu were arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police.
Police however clarified that those arrested in this case have no connection with the murder of former INLD MLA Bharat Singh who was gunned down on Sunday in Najafgarh at a banquet hall.
The incident had taken place just two days before Holi on March 5 when Rohtash (65), father of Gopal Pale and uncle of Ravinder alias Bholu was taking a stroll outside his house in Mitraon village. The attackers came there on a bike and a car and fired at him on head and chest. To make sure that he had died, they also stabbed him on his chest.
Police soon realised that this murder was the fallout of the ongoing rivalry of a gang war in the area as Gopal and Ravinder had allegedly shot dead four youths of the Naveen Khati gang and then burnt their bodies after taking them to Jhajjar in Haryana on January 1.
Special Cell had solved this case by arresting some members of the group while Haryana Police had later arrested other culprits.
"Out of those arrested, Sagar and Sunil are involved in the murder of Rohtash while the weapon of offence has been recovered from Vipin. At this moment the involvement of Rohit in the murder case has not been established. The same is under investigation," said DCP (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
According to the police, Naveen Khati and Ravinder, both residents of Mitrau village were involved in a fight over supremacy in the area.
Khati is currently lodged in Tihar jail and had tasked his henchmen of eliminating Rohtash.
"All these four men have been arrested on different dates. They have been on the run since March 5 and had been hiding in different cities across India before we nabbed them," said Yadav.
