Four trucks have been set on fire after a motorcyclist was crushed to death under the wheels of a heavy vehicle while another was seriously injured on Hatgamariah-Jaitnagar road on NH75 in West Singhbhum district today, a senior official said.
The incident occurred when one Royaram Hensa along with a pillion rider were returning home when a heavy vehicle dashed them, killing Hensa on the spot near Jaldiha village under Jagannathpur police station, said Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Jagannathpur, Santosh Kumar Sinha.
Hensa's pillion rider, who was seriously injured was immediately shifted to a hospital in Champua in adjoining Odisha.
Sinha told PTI that the body have been removed and additional force have been deployed to maintain law and order.
The situation was brought under control after the mob was chased away, he said.
A large number of local residents gathered on the spot soon after the incident and put up road blockade and set ablaze four trucks in protest, he said.
Sinha said fire-fighters have been called in to douse the flame.
The incident was second in three week period as six vehicles had been torched on the same spot after nine persons were killed and 25 others injured in a road accident on February 3 last.
