BJP leader Arun Jaitley today said a fractured mandate after the General Elections will be the worst thing to happen for the country as tough decisions would not be possible.
"The worst thing that could happen to India after the next election is to have a fractured mandate," Jaitley said here today while exuding confidence that the BJP with the support of NDA allies will be able to form the next government at the Centre.
"If you have a fractured mandate tough decisions are not possible. If you have a clear mandate, the government is strong enough and it can take tough decisions," he said.
He noted that coalition government will be there, but such governments with a large nucleus will only be able to survive and not those with a small nucleus.
Talking at a Google Hangout interaction, Jaitley said, "Fortunately there is a lot of space for non-Congress parties in India and the BJP is the largest of them....We are the frontrunners and I am sure we will be in a position to form a government."
He said that the NDA will win a large number of seats and there are some parties who have traditionally been close to the BJP but are not part of the alliance yet they will support us later.
He said that BJP is trying to expand the NDA and is trying to win the maximum number of seats and reach the 272 target.
Asked if they would seek the support of the AAP if the situation arises, Jaitley said, "Any government which has to be dependent on the Aam Aadmi Party will be an unstable government, which is not in national interest. So the question of our going in that direction does not arise."
Asked about the Third Front, he said, it is a "failed idea".
