On April 29, French citizen Frank Wilfred, 23, was seen lying on the platform at the Karnal station after the Amritsar-bound Sachkhand Express train had started moving from the station, police said.

Wilfred was rushed to a hospital in Karnal from where he was taken to PGIMER here, where he is currently in the ICU in a serious condition after receiving head injuries.

Police said that Wilfred had been pushed out from the train and they had sought TTE Manoj Kumar's remand to investigate who had pushed him.

Kumar was arrested yesterday and produced before a Karnal Court, which sent him to two-day police remand.

A Government Railway Police official said that the Frenchman's important documents, including passport had been recovered from Kumar's possession.

He said the TTE's role came under scanner as he had not informed the GRP or the railway authorities about the incident and also concealed the fact that his documents were with him.

The official said that preliminary investigations had revealed that there was some quarrel between the French citizen and the TTE before he was pushed out of the train.

The TTE has been booked for various charges, including attempt to murder and intentional omission to provide information, which was his duty to do so.

The incident had been reported to the GRP by some commuters at the Karnal railway station. PTI SUN AKA SPC
