Fresh snowfall in high altitude tribal areas of HP

Cold wave sweeping the hills and valleys of Himachal Pradesh intensified further today as high altitude tribal areas witnessed another spell of mild snowfall whilethe sky remained heavily overcast in mid and lower hills.
Avalanche threat loomed large over tribal areas and other higher hills. Keylong and Kalpa in the tribal belt received 4 cm and 2 cm of fresh snow respectively while Rohtang Pass, Mari and Koksar received 10 to 15 cm of snow.
Normal life remained paralysed in Lahaul valley and power supply could not be restored even after four days.
The high altitude tribal areas reeled under cold wave conditions with minimum temperatures staying between minus 16 and minus 21 degrees Celsius.
Keylong and Kalpa in Lahaul and Spiti, and Kinnaur districts recorded a low of minus 5.1 degrees Celsius and minus 2.6 degrees Celsius respectively.
The maximum day temperatures stayed below normal. Solan was hottest in the region with a high of 20 degrees Celsius, followed by Una 18.8 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar 17.5 degrees Celsius and Shimla 15.5 degrees Celsius.
The local MeT office has predicted dry weather in the region over the next three days and rains or snowfall at a few places from February 4.
