Bhagwan Das was hit by Mohammad Amzad, 35, in Lahori Gate area last night following an argument over some issue, they said.
Amzad was caught by local people and handed over to the police.
Das was rushed to a hospital where he died, the police said. Both the men worked as ragpickers and were drug addicts.
