Congress today alleged that hundreds of crores of funds from a debt-ridden Gujarat PSU were utilised last year for public relations of BJP at a time when Narendra Modi was made the Prime Ministerial candidate.
The "miscellaneous expenses" of Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) were to the tune of Rs 503 crore last year and the Gujarat PSU's Delhi office spent huge amounts on liquor, gift articles and flowers, party spokesman Shaktisinh Gohil told reporters.
Gohil, a known detractor of the Prime Minister since his days as the Gujarat Chief Minister, said that the "misuse" of money by the PSU which has debts totalling Rs 22,000 crore, was "just a trailer".
Gohil, also the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of Gujarat Assembly, also detailed the expenses made by the PSU, which he claimed distributed gifts of Rs 25 lakhs in Delhi in one year.
The Congress leader said he has got the information through RTI but has failed to get the names of beneficiaries despite seeking information. The PSU has only last year took a long term loan of Rs 5,000 crore.
