The Congress has already nominated four members including Mumbai unit Congress president Janardhan Chandurkar to the Upper House.
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesperson Sachin Sawant said that the party had cleared names of Gadgil and Kawade, which were approved by Governor K Sankaranarayanan.
Out of total 12 vacancies from the Governor's quota, six each are from Congress and NCP.
Gadgil (55), who hails from Pune, is the son of veteran Congress leader late V N Gadgil and grandson of freedom fighter and Congressman Kakasaheb Gadgil.
Gadgil is also on the AICC media panel, besides being a spokesman of the state Congress.
When contacted, Gadgil said he was informed about his nomination by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan last night and he would take oath on Wednesday.
A firebrand Dalit leader, Kawade is the founder president of Peoples Republican Party. He was a former MP from Chimur Lok Sabha constituency in 12th Lok Sabha during 1998-99.
