Gagan, representing Air India, was lying third at the end of the first day of competition in the men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions event with a score of 1163 at the Balewadi Shooting Range.
Veterans Samaresh Jung and Anjali Bhagwat were also lying in identical fourth position in the men's 25m Centre Fire Pistol and women's 10m Air Rifle events respectively. All finals are slated for the concluding day tomorrow.
Gagan will have to counter the challenge from Armymen Satyendra Singh and Chain Singh who, with scores of 1168 and 1164, were occupying the top two slots at the end of day one of their respective events.
In the women's 10m Air Rifle event, Anjali would have to contend with the likes of Commonwealth Games Champion Apurvi Chandela of Rajasthan, who is currently perched at the top with a score of 416.2 and Anjum Moudgil of Haryana, who is lying second with a score of 414.3.
