A gang of five members was today arrested for allegedly stamping and embossing new chassis and engine numbers on old trucks to make them look new and fit to ply on roads, police said.
Saleem, Ishtiyak, Roshan, Hari Kishan and Anil Kumar were arrested for making old trucks look new so that they can ply on the roads in any part of the country, Salman Taj Patil, SP (City) said.
The accused used to change the chassis and engine numbers and got them registered from Nagaland, the SP said, adding, the truck owners were thus getting rid of all old legal liabilities and pollution formalities.
Eight trucks with new registration numbers have been seized from different places after getting tip-off from them.
