"The accused has been identified as Ram Parvesh alias Lala, who led a gang in southwest Delhi and was allegedly involved in 10 cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion and robbery, DCP (south-west)," R A Sanjeev said.
Lala came out on bail around 10 months ago and taking the opportunity of the absence of bigger local gangsters he started a gang with at least four others, said police.
"In six months, the gang executed half a donzen incidents of attempt to murder, carjacking and extortion to gain quick control over the area and were further planning to usurp disputed properties," said a senior official.
Acting on a tip-off that the accused was to come at a temple in Gopal Nagar, police laid a trap and nabbed him yesterday, police said.
Police have recovered one pistol and four live cartilages from his possession and further investigations are in process, police said.
